Pruning Roses
Roses should be pruned after the chance of a killing frost has passed but before new growth has begun. On all types of roses prune out any dead or diseased looking cane. For shrub roses and climbers that is all you should do at this time. For hybrid tea, grandiflora and floribunda roses more pruning should be done. Remove all but 5-6 healthy canes and prune them to 12 to 18 inches. Make the pruning cut ¼ inch above a health bud at a 45 degree angle. Be careful the thorns are sharp.
