Bermuda Grass Control
Undesirable bermudagrass can become a major nuisance in Fescue lawns. This grass spreads aggressively by runners (eventually even invading flower beds), is a paler green color than fescue, and doesn’t green up as quickly in the spring. It is very hard to control since most chemical controls for Bermuda also damage fescue. Bermuda often invades from a neighboring yard as well if its present.
A thick, healthy fescue lawn will be much more resistant to Bermuda spreading into it than a thin lawn, so a full lawn is the first line of defense. If the infestation of Bermuda is already heavy enough, it may be more economical to spray out an entire lawn with a glysophate product such as Hi-Yield’s Killzall and reseed it in the fall. Two other chemical options include Triclopyr Ester by Hi-Yield and Bermudagrass Control for Lawns by Bayer, but both of these products need to be sprayed once a month for multiple months to kill out Bermuda completely.
