Planting FAQ

Plantings are scheduled within a time window—Morning, Afternoon, or Anytime. We can’t guarantee an exact arrival time. You don’t need to be home. We’ll provide a flag to mark the planting location, and our crew will take care of the rest.

If a planting date needs to be changed, it will be rescheduled for the next available opening. During peak seasons (spring and fall), this may result in a significant delay, as schedules often fill weeks in advance.

If conditions could harm the plant or your property, we’ll reschedule for the next suitable day.

Yes — we can remove existing trees or shrubs when they are being replaced as part of a new planting. Removal must be quoted in advance.

Sometimes. It depends on stump grinding, remaining roots, and soil conditions. Photos or a site visit help us determine what’s possible.

If we encounter site conditions that were not known in advance and require additional labor or equipment, additional charges may apply. We’ll discuss any changes with you before continuing.

Access + Site Readiness

  • Clear access to the planting area (gates unlocked, pets secured)
  • A general idea of where you’d like the plant placed
  • Sprinkler heads/lines flagged if known

Utility Locates

Before we plant, Tree Top is required to have underground utilities marked on your property. We contact the utility locating service on your behalf.

To ensure the locate can be completed, please make sure gates are unlocked and pets are indoors. Even friendly dogs will prevent the locator from entering the yard, which can delay planting. Locates are typically completed 2–3 days before the scheduled planting date.

Once the planting area has been marked, please review the markings to be sure there are no utilities where you’ve chosen to plant. For safety reasons, we are not permitted to plant within 4 feet of a marked utility line. If there’s a concern, let us know before we arrive so we can adjust the plan.

Please note that sprinkler and irrigation lines are not marked by the utility locating service. When selecting a planting location, try to avoid known sprinkler lines. If a line is cut during planting, repair charges may apply.

Unforeseen Site Conditions

Some site conditions cannot be fully evaluated until planting begins, including buried roots from previous trees, large or unreported stumps, or existing plants that are larger than described. If these conditions require additional labor or equipment beyond the original scope, Tree Top reserves the right to charge for the additional work. Any added charges will be communicated before proceeding.
