This apple variety is nearly identical to the standard Honeycrisp apple but turns a much brighter red color a few weeks before it ripens. It is a medium to large apple. It is very crisp and reliably sweet and pleasant tasting.

They store well in cold storage for up to 6 months. It ripens earlier in September. The University of Minnesota developed this tree for cold hardiness, but it does well in a range of climates if stress is avoided. It is resistant to fireblight and apple scab.

Honeycrisp apples are not self-pollinating. They need another apple tree within 100 feet of them that blooms at the same time. In windy areas like Kansas, 20 feet apart will ensure much better pollination. Good varieties for pollinating Honeycrisp apples include Gala, Granny Smith, Jonathan, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, and Fuji.
