This evergreen tree is grown for its fast growth rate and large size. It can grow up to 3 feet a year in ideal conditions. Its needles are bright green and held in flattened sprays. The overall shape of the tree is pyramidal, and it can be trimmed if necessary. This tree works well as an accent or as a screen. It does not work as screening in exposed areas, however.
It prefers full sun to part shade and moist, well-drained soils. It can tolerate some dry periods.
