This charming cultivar of the Eastern arborvitae is well-behaved, staying small at maturity with a perfectly round form. It will also add winter interest with good evergreen color. It may bronze slightly in exposed sites, though.
The Mr. Bowling Ball Arborvitae prefers full to part sun and evenly moist soils, although it will tolerate clay as long as it’s not saturated with water. It is relatively low maintenance and requires little trimming. They can occasionally be othered by bagworms, spider mites, or scale. They work very well as specimen plants or in formal rows where their round habit can shine.
