This evergreen shrub is grown for its showy flowers in spring and attractive foliage throughout the year. Its large clusters of flowers are bright red-orange and generally emerge in May.
It grows to 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide.
Azaleas need afternoon shade or dappled shade throughout the day in our area and moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Adding compost at the time of planting and mulching is highly recommended. The evergreen leaves will also scorch if exposed to winter wind, and a product to lower pH may have to be routinely applied.
This plant works best as a foundation plant or in a woodland garden.
