Sunsation Barberry has excellent yellow foliage and is a very compact plant.  The golden foliage has an orange cast most of the season.

This shrub has the best color in full sun, but tolerates part shade, has small spires, and adapts to a wide range of soils except for waterlogged soils.  It has no serious pest problems.
