This medium-large tree has glossy, dark green leaves that turn brilliant red to yellow in fall. Its bark becomes dark to almost black at maturity.  It can tolerate full sun to part shade.

This tree prefers moist, acidic soil but is also adaptable to dry and very wet sites once mature.  It works well as a shade or accent tree with great fall color.
