Northstar is a sour cherry tree that bears abundant bright red fruit in June. The firm, juicy fruit is red inside and large for sour cherries. While the fruit can be eaten fresh, it is usually used for baking or preserves.
Northstar cherries are naturally dwarf trees that grow to around 7 to 9 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide with a vase shape. The tree blooms white in early spring (usually April in Kansas) and is followed by shiny, dark green leaves. The Northstar Cherry is disease-resistant to brown spot and leaf spot.
It is self-pollinating but will produce a large crop with a pollinator.
