This native shrub is valued for its compact habit and stunning fall color, with bright red and orange foliage that makes it an attractive addition to any landscape. A slow grower, it reaches 3 to 5 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, and can be sheared to form a neat, small hedge.
In the spring, it produces clusters of dainty white flowers, but unlike other chokeberries, this variety does not produce berries. The glossy green leaves turn vibrant shades of red and orange in the fall, providing excellent seasonal interest.
Low Scape Hedger Chokeberry grows best in full sun, but it is also tolerant of part shade. It adapts well to a wide range of soil types, from saturated to dry soils, and is deer resistant. It is generally free of serious pests and diseases, though leaf spot may occasionally occur. Unlike other varieties, this one does not sucker, making it a great choice for controlled spaces.
This shrub adds three-season interest to wildlife gardens, makes an excellent low hedge, and works well as a foundation plant or on stream banks. Its compact size and attractive foliage make it ideal for a variety of garden styles.
