This shrub has one of the most stunning flower displays of late summer. It does not grow as a tree in our zone, although it will grow larger in sheltered sites. It has fuscia-red flowers, green foliage that can turn orange-red in the fall, and interesting exfoliating bark. It can be pruned in late winter to maintain a tidy appearance.
This shrub blooms best in full sun and is heat and drought-tolerant, but is intolerant of wet soils.
