Also called Bush Honeysuckle, this medium-sized shrub is grown for its interestingly colored leaves, yellow flowers, and its ability to grow in a large range of light. In part, to full sun, the leaves are almost black throughout the summer. They then turn bright red in the fall. It also has clusters of yellow honeysuckle-shaped flowers throughout the summer. This shrub grows to 3 to 4 feet tall and wide.

It will tolerate a wide range of conditions and sunlight, including drought and full shade. In Kansas, it has its best color in full sun with some afternoon shade. The Kodiak Black Bush Honeysuckle shrub works well for foundation plantings, and as a North American native, it works well in natural plantings.
