This elderberry is an excellent accent shrub or small tree. It has interesting foliage that has a lacy texture and is almost black in the summer. In the late spring, it’s covered in large panicles of lightly scented, pink flowers that are an excellent contrast with the foliage. Edible red to black berries follow. This shrub can take a variety of soil types but performs best in moist soils.
This shrub can take full sun or partial shade, but foliage color will be best in full sun.
