The Frontier Elm is grown for its stately shape and shade. It has excellent disease resistance, including Dutch Elm Disease. The Frontier Elm can also develop a red to purple fall color that persists longer than many trees. This medium-large tree grows to 40 feet tall and 30 feet wide. It works well as a shade tree, street tree, or park tree. It rarely flowers, which is a bonus since many elm varieties produce copious seeds.
This tree prefers full sun for its best growth. Once established, it will tolerate a wide variety of soils and conditions, including medium drought.
