Chinese Fringe Tree
Chionanthus retusus
This small to medium tree is grown for its clusters showy white flowers in late spring. The flowers are delicate and look like lace. The leaves are bright green turning yellow in the fall. The branching habit is upright and the bark is also exfoliating and attractive. This tree prefers full sun but can tolerate some light shade. It prefers moist, acidic soil and needs some watering in a prolonged drought. It works well as an accent or small yard tree.
