This native perennial, Mesa Red Gaillardia, is admired for its vibrant, rich red flowers that bloom in summer. The daisy-like blooms, up to 3 inches wide, feature a deep red center that fades to crimson, attracting butterflies to the garden. The plant forms a low, neat mound with medium-green, oval leaves, some of which develop lobes in their early stages. It grows to a height of under 18 inches tall and a width of under 24 inches.

Gaillardias thrive in full sun and moist, well-drained soil, though they are adaptable to dry soils and drought once established. However, they may rot in wet, heavy soils. While generally resilient, they can occasionally develop powdery mildew or fungal leaf spots and may benefit from being cut back in late summer to refresh their appearance.
