Frans Fontaine Hornbeam

Carpinus betulus ‘Frans Fontaine’

This Hornbeam is much narrower than the species and grows into a stately tree.  It is excellent for accents and formal landscapes.  It has glossy, dark green foliage that turns yellow in the fall. The smooth gray bark is also ornamental.  It can be pruned into a hedge.  It prefers full sun but will tolerate some shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil.
