This compact shrub is grown for its huge clusters of blooms that open white and fade to pink, then eventually tan, persisting on the plant and adding winter interest. It has large leaves with deep lobes reminiscent of oak leaves. The leaves turn red to maroon in the fall. The bark is cinnamon-colored and pealing, adding winter interest.
This plant works well as a foundation or accent plant and works well in mixed shade areas. It prefers part sun and must have evenly moist soil.
