Prairie Blues Little Bluestem is grown for its consistent blue-grey foliage color. The narrow blades turn orange to red in the fall and are interesting throughout the winter. It has small seed heads that rise above the plant in the fall. It works well for foundation plantings, mixed borders, massings, and low-maintenance areas.
This plant is extremely heat and drought-tolerant and will tolerate a wide variety of soils. It’s extremely low maintenance, needing to be cut to the ground once annually while dormant. It does not have any serious pest or disease problems.
