Gold Bar Maiden Grass has distinct yellow banding and tight, upright habit. Its blades have horizontal yellow bands from the base to the tip of the leaf that maintain their color well throughout the season. It has bronze seedheads that rise above the plant in the fall. It is slow growing, eventually reaching 5 feet in height. It works well as an accent plant or as a foundation plant. It prefers full sun to part shade but will lose its color in more shade.
This plant will tolerate drought once established and a wide variety of soils, including heavy clay. It is low maintenance, only needing to be cut back once a year in early spring. It does not have any serious pest or disease problems in our area.
