Little Zebra Maiden Grass is a striking dwarf grass that grows to 3 to 4 feet tall and not as wide. It has very distinct yellow banding horizontally up and down each blade. It maintains its color well throughout the summer. It has interesting purplish gray seedheads that fade to tan and add winter interest. The foliage remains full and upright and fades to tan during the winter. It works well as an accent plant or as a foundation plant. It prefers full sun to part shade but will lose its color in more shade.
This plant will tolerate drought once established and a wide variety of soils, including heavy clay. It is low maintenance, only needing to be cut back once a year in early spring. It does not have any serious pest or disease problems in our area.
