Texas Red Oak
Quercus buckleyi
This oak is related to the Shumard Oak but is generally smaller, growing only 30 to 50 feet tall and spreading. It is also more drought tolerant than the Shumard. Its dark green leaves turn bright red to orange in the fall. It is very heat tolerant and adapts to a wide variety of soils. It works well as a medium-large yard tree or in a tree line.
