Dark Towers Penstemon is a striking perennial known for its rich burgundy foliage and tall spikes of delicate light pink flowers. Blooming in late spring, the tubular flowers rise on impressive spikes that range from 18 to 36 inches tall. The foliage forms ground-hugging rosettes, maintaining its vibrant purple-burgundy hue throughout summer and adding dramatic color to the landscape. Over time, the clump spreads to a width of 1 to 2 feet.

This plant thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, as heavy or poorly drained soils can lead to root rot. After flowering, cutting back the spikes helps keep the plant neat. Penstemon is resistant to deer but draws in butterflies and hummingbirds, adding life to the garden. While generally hardy, some plants may experience leaf spots or powdery mildew.
