This variety of mugo pine is grown for its extremely compact and rounded form. Its dark green needles stay evergreen throughout the year. It will eventually grow to 1 to 2 feet tall and wide and can grow to 3 by 3 with more age.
Pines are tolerant of a wide variety of soils except for saturated soils. It prefers full sun and is drought-tolerant once established. However, pine tip moths can occasionally bother it.
The Gnome Mugo Pine works for very tiny spaces since it is so compact. It also works for rock gardens and the front of foundation plantings.
