Avondale Redbud are small trees or large shrubs grown for their profuse, rich purple buds in the spring and unusual, vase-shaped form. It is generally grown as a multistemmed plant, although occasionally will be single-stemmed. Its blooms in March and April are followed by glossy green leaves.
This tree prefers part shade to full sun and moist, evenly drained soil. This plant works well as an accent, in a large foundation planting, and as an understory plant.
