Merlot Redbud is a compact, drought-tolerant redbud known for its deep purple foliage and vibrant spring blooms. It is a cross between Cercis canadensis and Forest Pansy, combining smaller leaves, richer color, and improved heat and drought resistance.
In early spring, before the leaves emerge, clusters of rosy-pink flowers cover the branches, attracting pollinators. The glossy, dark purple leaves appear shortly after and maintain their rich color through summer, turning golden-bronze in fall.
This small, ornamental tree grows 12 to 15 feet tall and wide, making it perfect for yards, patios, and small landscapes. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. With good heat and drought tolerance, Merlot is a low-maintenance tree that adds year-round beauty to the landscape.
