This unusual redbud is grown for its small, weeping habit and burgundy to purple leaves. Small pinkish flowers cover the tree in early spring, followed by the purple foliage, which fades to green in the heat. The branches arch down to the ground if left unpruned.
This tree has its best color in full sun but can be grown in part shade. It cannot tolerate wet sites. It works well as an accent in beds or foundation plantings.
