This moderately slow-spreading perennial groundcover is grown for its lovely blue-green foliage and ease of care. The Blue Spruce Sedum is a succulent with needle-like leaves that grow from each stem, resembling spruce needles. Clusters of yellow flowers appear above the foliage in early summer.

This sedum grows to about 6 to 8 inches tall and slowly spreads to around 1 to 1 ½ feet wide. It grows best in full sun but can tolerate light shade. It’s very adaptable to a wide variety of soils except for poorly drained areas. Soils with too much organic matter will cause the plant to flop.

Once established, it is drought tolerant. It will also tolerate deer, rabbits, and clay soil. Blue Spruce Sedum works well as a border at the front of planting beds, in rock gardens, and as a ground cover in small areas. It also works well in containers.
