This tiny evergreen is cherished for its neat, pyramidal shape and exceptionally slow growth. A miniature selection of the Dwarf Alberta Spruce, it grows just a few inches per year, reaching about 3 feet tall and 1 foot wide in 10 years, with continued growth over time. Its short, twisted needles give it a unique texture, and its naturally conical form requires no pruning to maintain its shape.
Thriving in full sun but tolerant of light shade, this spruce prefers moist, well-drained soil and good air circulation. It struggles in areas with excessive reflected heat, such as the south and west sides of buildings. While generally hardy, it may occasionally be affected by spider mites.
The Jean’s Dilly Spruce is an excellent choice for containers, formal gardens, and small spaces where a refined, miniature evergreen is desired.
