Hosta Sum and Substance is grown for its huge chartreuse leaves. The flowers emerge in the summer on long stalks held above the plant and are trumpet-shaped and white with a lavender blush.
This plant is best used in a shade garden or as a foundation planting in sheltered areas. It will have its best color in some partial shade but can grow in more shade. This hosta can tolerate more sun than most varieties and will turn almost golden in more sun. It grows best in moist, evenly drained soils and will perform best if watered during dry spells. This plant is fairly low maintenance overall.
