This large, semi-evergreen shrub is grown for its flowers and ease of care. Growing to 8 to 10 feet tall and wide, it has a very dense habit. It blooms large, umbrella-shaped white flowers in the spring, followed by fall red berries that eventually turn glossy black. Its leaves are large and leathery and may be semi-evergreen.
It grows well in full sun to part shade. It will tolerate a wide range of soils. To control its size, prune right after flowering so new buds can form for the following year. It works well as a foundation plant, an accent, or a screen.
