This Weigela is grown for its lovely, dark purple foliage that maintains its color throughout the growing season and its contrasting bright pink flowers. Masses of trumpet-shaped flowers appear on this shrub throughout the spring. The branches are somewhat arching, and the shrub grows wider than tall, reaching around 2 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It can be lightly pruned after it blooms to maintain its shape.

Weigelas prefer medium watering and afternoon shade in Kansas. They are rarely bothered by pests or diseases.  The Spilled Wine Weigelia works well as a foundation planting, as a specimen, or even as a container plant.
