This plum yew has handsome evergreen foliage and an upright form. It will grow to 8 to 10 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide. The needles of this plant are very dark green and appear in tufts along its branches. This evergreen is one of the few that will grow in full shade, but it prefers part shade.
It will grow well in a variety of soils except for wet soils. It will tolerate some drought once established. It should be protected from cold winter winds.
This shrub works well as a foundation plant, screen, or accent in a shade garden.
